These Collages are made in Upper Trowse Norwich. The modern houses are in the style of Dutch Gable. I was inspired by the curved designs of the roof tops, the structures of the chimneys and the spaces between the houses. Whilst I was sketching a bird decided to poop on my page. How rude!!!
I decided to create a more abstract piece which was inspired by the curved roof tops, chimney pots, windows, patterns and the negative shapes between the houses.
This is the back of the terraced houses I live in. The gardens are separated by a communal path that runs along the back. This creates a lovely open community atmosphere especially in the summer. I have lovely neighbours who often bring me fresh veg from their allotments.
I created an abstract collage which was influenced by the shapes and patterns of the terraced houses and gardens.
I had a lovely afternoon out on a sketch meet up with Norwich Urban Sketchers. We met at Jarrolds which is Norwich's independent department Store. It was very festive around this area today with busy christmas shoppers and the wonderful buskers playing festive tunes.
Old Derelict Pumping Station in Trowse Norwich which opened in 1909 It started to rain and I realised that the rain drops, randomly falling on the page created an authentic weathered effect, when the rain bleed the pen marks. Good timing!! I was inspired by the colours in the surrounding area.
I went back to Magdalen Street to draw the Moonlight Cafe which is not far from "Now N Then". I have always thought it would be a great name for a film or book and have been meaning to sketch it for ages now. Unfortunately when I arrived and to my dismay the cafe had very recently changed its name to Cafe Norwich using the Norwich City Football colours. I couldn't have that so I drew everything and then google mapped it to get the original sign. Not the best place for tea though!!
